What is a weighted GPA?

A weighted GPA is calculated after adding extra points for Honors or Advanced Placement (AP)courses. Instead of being out of a 4.0 scale, weighted GPAs are are on a 5.0 scale. For example, an A on the weighted scale is worth 5 points rather than 4, and a B is worth 4 points than 3, so the overall GPA can exceed 4.0.

What is an unweighted GPA?

Many schools in the US use a letter grading system, with a corresponding letter grade, for example, an A or B or C. Your unweighted GPA, which is measured on a scale from 0 to 4.0, is the cumulative average of the grades in all of your subjects and is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted.
