How long is the SAT test?

The SAT is 3 hours long. Including breaks, the exam takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete.

The new digital SAT is shorter at 2 hours and 14 minutes.

How many sections does the SAT test have?

The paper-based SAT consists of three main sections: Reading, Writing & Language and Math (No Calculator & Calculator Sections).

The new digital SAT only has two sections - Reading & Writing and Math.

How is the SAT test scored?

The SAT is scored on a scale of 400 to 1600. The total score is the sum of the two section scores: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math. Each of these two section scores has a possible range of 200–800.

What is the best way to study for the SAT?

You should familiarize yourself with the test format and for that you should do some practice tests. In case you feel you need it, you should enroll for some tutoring as well.

When is the next SAT test?

The SAT is administered in March, May, April, June, August, October, November, and December.

Is the ACT harder than the SAT?

The SAT and ACT generally cover the same topics. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions decisions and awarding merit-based scholarships. Most colleges do not prefer one test over the other.

What is the best month to take the SAT?

If you are taking the SAT for the first time, the best time to take either of the tests is in June before your junior year. This gives you plenty of time during the summer to prepare for the test that you plan to take.
