About Joy

Joy graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Literature (Chinese and Spanish) and minors in Creative Writing and East Asian Studies. During her time at Princeton, she studied abroad at University College London and Beijing Normal University and served as Class Historian, managed a bartending business, and produced graphic designs for the University.

As an avid writer, Joy has studied with award-winning authors like Jeffrey Eugenides, Kirstin Valdez Quade, and Fiona Maazel. Her first novel, The Problem With Helena, was published in 2018, hitting #3 in New Releases and Top 100 in the Asian American Literature category in its first week. Her short film, My New Boyfriend, which she worked on as a screenwriter, was released in 2021 and has been selected for 5 international film festivals.

As an educator, Joy has worked with Johns Hopkins, Princeton in Asia, and high-end admissions consulting firms servicing clients around the world. She aims to bring her background in storytelling and design thinking to mentorship.

Her favourite things begin with the letter C: coffee, chocolate, cardio, and conversation.
