What are the best places in the US to study engineering?

Hi there! I’m a prospective applicant from New Zealand wanting to study engineering, but I wanted to know where in the US would be the best places to target?

Obviously firstly, the top schools dedicated to engineering are schools such as MIT, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech.

However, other schools which have really strong and comparable engineering programs are Stanford, UC Berkeley, Princeton, CMU, Michigan, and Purdue.

It really depends more on your preferences outside engineering such as what kind of environment you want to be in, what kind of area, and if you want a liberal arts education or a more focused approach to engineering etc. Fit is so much more important than brand name etc if your very interested in engineering and you should consider all the variables before making a decision!

I recommend looking at engineering-specific rankings such as this: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-engineering-schools/eng-rankings
