Which school is ranked #1 in New Zealand for 2026?
ACG Parnell College is New Zealand's top-ranked high school for 2026, up one place from last year.

Methodology
How the rankings are calculated
Every brick and mortar school in New Zealand is scored across three weighted criteria, using publicly available data from the 2024 academic year, the most recent full year of published results. NCEA, NZQA, IB, and CIE curricula are weighted equally.
70%
Academic performance
Exam results across all four curricula, plus national academic awards such as NZQA Scholarships.
15%
Extracurricular and leadership
Breadth and depth of clubs, competitions, arts and athletics programmes, and 2025/26 admission results to the Ivy League and other top universities.
15%
Access and diversity
The makeup of each school's student population and the practices behind it, including merit and needs-based scholarships.
What separates the schools at the top?
The schools holding the highest positions share a pattern. Most offer the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, or both, curricula that admissions offices in the US and UK read without translation. Beyond the classroom, they run deep programmes in research, competitions, and leadership, the areas selective universities weigh heavily when admitting Kiwi students. High grades alone no longer separate applicants at this level; the profile built around them does.
“Beyond exam performance, the schools rising to the top are those investing in holistic development, encouraging students to pursue research, leadership, entrepreneurship, and global competitions alongside their academic studies.”
