UNSW is a six year undergraduate medical school which is divided into three different phases - scenario based learning, practice based learning and independent reflective learning. The first few years allow you to learn the foundational knowledge of medicine, so you can dive into the nitty gritty of pathophysiology and clinical medicine. When you finish you’ll be awarded a BMed/MD - it’s the best of both worlds.
In order to apply to UNSW, you’ll need to first sit the UCAT. You’ll also need to study for the UCAT while maintaining an ATAR of 96 - which will be no problem while also keeping up with your extracurricular activities, right? UNSW does not consider the Situational Judgement portion of the UCAT, and though they say that students who pass the 50th percentile meet the interview threshold, you don’t want to be the lowest UCAT score accepted. Luckily our amazing team of Education Coordinators and tutors have helped hundreds of students get into medical school - and know how to help you maximise your study time. You’ll need to fill out an application on the MAP and the UAC application. The next hurdle will be the interview. The interview at UNSW is a semi-structured interview. There will usually be two interviewers - ready to ascertain if you have the qualities a doctor might need. Have you ever been asked “why do you want to be a doctor?” If the mere thought fills you with dread, consider how you can be better prepared for that inevitable question. You’ll need to have a genuine answer to the question, while keeping composed and confident.
