As the college admissions landscape continues to evolve, Macalester College presents a snapshot of its recent admission results for the entering classes of 2028 and 2027. Let's look at the numbers to understand the changing trends and profiles of admitted students.
For the Fall 2024 entering class, Macalester College received a total of 8,964 applications. Among these applicants, the college admitted 2,496 students, or 28%. This showcases the competitive nature of the admissions process at Macalester.

The college boasts representation from all 50 U.S. states, as well as from D.C., Guam, Mariana Islands, and Puerto Rico.
International students account for 12% of the total student body. In total, 88 different countries are represented, and 23% of students hold citizenship from countries other than the U.S.

The size of the Class of 2027 stood at 518 students. We don’t yet know how many of the 2,496 admitted students will accept their offer to attend Macalester. Last year’s yield rate was 22.67%. If the same yield rate applies to this year, Macalester’s incoming class of 2028 will be around 565 students.
While the percentage of international students remained substantial at 17%, it was less than the admitted Class of 2028’s 23%.
The percentage of first-generation students in the enrolled class of 2027 was 17%. This admitted students into the Class of 2028, that portion is 10%.
The median SAT scores for Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing were 720 each, and the median ACT score was 32. The percentage of students ranking in the top 10% of their high school classes was 58%.
The Class of 2027 represented 40 U.S. states and 58 countries by citizenship — less states and countries than this year’s admitted class!
