Harvard and Yale Model UN - Day 15: Exploring Boston and Harvard University
28/01/2017: We started our day by heading to the Quincy Markets for round two! After indulging (some of us a little too much) in the delish food on offer, we decided to walk The Freedom Trail on our own - a 2.5 mile trek around Boston that walks past 16 locations significant to the history of the United States. The walk sites included simple explanatory ground markers, graveyards, notable churches and buildings, a historic naval frigate and ended at the Boston Commons, a centrally located park.
It was absolutely freezing but beautiful. Walking through the park, we watched the ice skaters on the lake and had a mini snowball fight! There were also many squirrels around the park and we managed to get up close to some (we all got very excited whenever we spotted one!). After freezing in the park, we moved on to Newbury Street for some more exploring and a spot of shopping.
As we were still separated from our other half of the group, who are competing at the Harvard Model UN, a large portion of our group were missing people who had come to be our close friends over the past few weeks. So, we decided to head over to their hotel to catch up with them in-between their committee sessions. Again, we were all excited to regroup. As a whole group, we went out for pizza, each of us discussing the different edventures we’d been having over the past few days.
In the evening, HMUN held a cultural extravaganza which was great entertainment with lots of singing and dancing. Immediately after the extravaganza, true to the nature of our tour, all the students quickly rushed on to the next event, which was the much anticipated delegate dance. The students all danced the night away and had an awesome evening together! There is only one day left on our tour and this was a great way to finalise our incredible trip around the US.
