ABOUT SUZANNA
Suzanna was born and raised in Michigan, and graduated with honours from Calvin College with a BA in Chinese and a minor in Information Systems. She participated in multiple study abroad programs, including a Business and Engineering Interim class in China, the Taiwan-U.S. Sister’s Alliance (TUSA) summer scholarship program at the National Pingtung University of Education, and a semester at Beijing Capital Normal University.
She then went on to study at the University of Michigan for her MA in Chinese Studies. During her master’s degree program, she was awarded the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) Endowment Award and the Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship, and studied at the Middlebury College Summer Chinese Language Immersion Program in Vermont as well as the Inter-University Program (IUP) at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
Following her education, Suzanna worked for two years as an English teacher at Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao in Hebei, China. Upon returning to Michigan, she served for a year as the administrative assistant for the International Student Program at Grand Rapids Christian High School. These two experiences sparked her interest in continuing to work with students, especially utilising her background to help foster better cross-cultural understanding. She eventually found herself back in China working as a college counsellor and UK program manager at an education company in Shanghai, where she helped students secure offers to universities including the University of Cambridge, University of Chicago, Swarthmore College, Bowdoin College, UC Santa Barbara, Boston College, University of St Andrews, University College London, University of Manchester, and the University of Hong Kong.
Now living in Michigan once more, Suzanna is excited to continue working with students, to provide them with tools and guidance in their education journeys, and build meaningful relationships along the way. In her spare time, you will usually find Suzanna reading or writing at a coffee shop, exploring new places with her camera, going antiquing with friends, or just enjoying life at home with a baking or needle-craft project and music. Usually battling a sense of wanderlust, she is always up for new adventures and trying new things.
