Columbia University Acceptance Results for Class of 2026

It was another epic application season for Columbia University. The school received 60,377 applications, nearly matching last year’s historic 60,551 applications. Columbia’s Class of 2026 admission rate of 3.73% was almost identical to last year’s 3.66%.

While the last two years’ numbers remained steady, they were significantly different than the numbers in the 2019-2020 admissions cycle when only 40,083 students applied, and 6.15% were admitted.

This year only 2,253 students from all 50 states and 86 countries received the coveted acceptance letter. Columbia’s student body is also more diverse than ever before. Compared to last year, Columbia’s Class of 2026 includes:

  • 4% more students who identified as students of color
  • 3% more first-generation college students
  • 2% more Pell-grant-eligible students
  • 2% more international students

The official announcement was made on Columbia’s website on Ivy Day, March 31, 2022.

My colleagues and I have spent the past few months reviewing tens of thousands of applications, looking at and engaging with activity lists, transcripts, letters from teachers and counselors, and personal statements. Getting to know these talented students has been a privilege — each of them brings their own unique voice and exuberant, questioning spirit to the Class of 2026. Together they form an incredibly dynamic group, whose backgrounds, viewpoints, and interests will enrich the Columbia community on every level.
