UPenn Acceptance Rate for the Class of 2028: What We Know

While students accepted into UPenn's Class of 2028 during the regular round were notified about their acceptance, UPenn has not yet disclosed the exact number of students accepted or this year's acceptance rate. Continuing a practice that began with the Class of 2026, Penn has not released its Early Decision acceptance rates for the Class of 2027 or 2028. This decision echoes those of other elite institutions like Princeton and Cornell.

Here's what we know about UPenn's freshly admitted Class of 2028: The university received over 65,000 total applications this year. This marks the largest application pool in university history and an increase of over 10% from last year. The Class of 2027 received over 59,000 applications.

Admitted students hail from 109 countries and all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Marshall Islands, and the military APO. This year's admitted class also includes one of the largest groups of students from Philadelphia.

UPenn’s Acceptance Rate and Admission Stats for the Class of 2027

Last admissions cycle, UPenn admitted 3,474 students out of 59,565 applications for an overall acceptance rate of 5.8%. An estimated 8,000 applied via Early Decision, but the exact number has not yet been released.

The UPenn Class of 2027 includes students from 48 states and 97 countries. Nineteen percent of the class are first generation college students, while 14% are legacy students.

Student Profile for UPenn’s Class of 2027

UPenn did not reveal much information about its incoming student body, instead focusing on the admission tasks students were asked to do. “We are proud to report that they collectively represent the most diverse group of admitted students in Penn’s history in terms of racial and ethnic background, socioeconomic diversity (including those who are eligible for Pell Grants), and those who are the first generation in their family to attend a four-year college or university,” the institution said.

Students were asked to write thank you notes as part of their supplemental essays as well as sharing examples of their enthusiasm.

UPenn Early Admissions Results for the Class of 2027

UPenn reported its Early Admission results for the Class of 2027, however the university did not disclose the acceptance rate. This was the largest Early Decision applicant pool in Penn’s history with over 8,000 applications. The accepted students represent about half of the incoming class of 2027. Considering that 2,400 students were admitted, Crimson estimates that 1,200 were awarded early admission with an acceptance rate of 15%.
