Harvard, Princeton, Yale - Ivy League Admission Rates for the Class of 2024

MAR 29, 2020 • 15 min read

Following some record-low admission rates last year, most admission rates rose throughout many Ivy-League schools, including Harvard, Yale, UPenn and Brown.

Harvard’s record low admission rate of 4.50% from last year has risen back up to 4.92% for the class of 2024, admitting 1,980 students from their applicant pool of 40,248. It was similar at Yale, whose record-low of 5.91% rose to 6.52%, accepting 2,304 from a pool of 35,330 applicants.

Brown’s rate rose to 6.88% (up from 6.60%), accepting 2,530 from 36,794 applicants. The University of Pennsylvania's rate increased by more than half a percent to 8.07% (up from 7.44%), accepting 3,404 from 42,205 applicants.

However, not everybody’s acceptance rate has risen; Princeton recorded a marginal fall in rates from 5.77% to 5.55%, accepting 1,823 from 32,836 applicants, and bringing its rate closer to its long-time rival Harvard.

We are still awaiting final admissions rate data from Cornell, Dartmouth and Columbia. We will keep you updated as these results come in.

But aside from Princeton, why has there been this trend of rising rates amongst Harvard, Yale, Upenn and Brown? Well, according to the numbers below, it seems that while the number of accepted students has remained roughly the same, across the board the number of students that have applied has generally dropped from the record highs of the last two years. It begs several questions; why did less students apply for Ivy League universities this year? Will this year’s start to reverse the overall trend in the last few years of falling admissions rates? Does this mean good news for the chances of the Class of 2025?

In any case, the beneficiaries of higher admission rates are clearly the students, including our Crimson Students, who are continuing their success from the early round. We will keep you posted about our results once they have all come in, but a huge congratulations to all of our Crimson students and families for any Ivy League #accepted success today!
