How Crimson Helped
Crafting the “Empathetic Innovator” Identity
Crimson's approach centered on patient relationship-building to unlock Paige's authentic voice rather than imposing artificial narratives. The transformation required extraordinary sensitivity, as April noted: “She's always been to me like a very sensitive child... Her empathy is not very outward because she's extremely introverted... But her way that she would go about solutions is never about, 'How are you feeling?' It's actually doing something.”
Academics at a glance
Crimson’s approach was not to reinvent Paige, but to help her discover, articulate, and strategically present her authentic self. Crimson's mentors identified a core narrative that connected her diverse pursuits: The “Empathetic Innovator: Forging Connections in Mind, Health, and Heritage.” This positioning powerfully linked her fascination with cognitive science, her drive to improve well-being through mental health research and philanthropy, and her deep connection to her Ukrainian roots.

Profile Transformation
From Passion to Purpose
Before Crimson, Paige had strong academics and a passion for artistic swimming, but no clear direction. With expert support, she built a standout, purpose-driven application that earned her a spot at Northwestern. Here's how she got there.

“My sister and I were on FaceTime with my mom when I opened my decision. I wish that I had recorded it. My mom was watching and said that I had an honest surprised face with hands over my mouth and then burst into tears. My sister hugged me. I felt as though all my hard work had finally paid off.”
Paige was accepted to Northwestern University Early Decision in Fall 2024 to study Mathematical Modeling of Social Science with added majors in Economics and Cognitive Science.

Behind The Scenes
In Conversation with Paige
I am a senior at the Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas. I have a sister in grade 7. I live in a single-parent family with my mother who is a physician. In lower school, I participated in a variety of activities including dance, figure skating, piano, musical theater, and horseback riding. I then found artistic swimming and have dedicated 20 hours a week to this sport for the last 9 years. I was lucky to be active in the sport during the social isolation of the pandemic. I have attained international status in my sport. I represented the US at the Pan Am Championships.
I have been at Hockaday, an all-girls private school since pre-K. We are a close group with a class of 128. I participated on the varsity swim team throughout high school. I also competed in HOSA and joined tutoring clubs. I was an A student, but my particular strengths were math and Latin. In my senior year, I am also enjoying economics and computer science. I took 8 AP courses at school and 2 independently.
I heard about Crimson online after watching a Jamie Beaton interview. He is amazingly intelligent and his story is so inspiring.
April unveiled the importance of developing a cohesive story for the admissions process. Once we understood that, the process was much easier, and choices were more obvious for a good fit in senior classes, ECs, and college choices.
Through identifying my interests in math, economics, and mental health, I created a framework of activities to support these interests. We creatively structured 3 to 4 EC activities to support my major focus in math, economics, cognitive science, and Slavic studies. These included paper publications, essay and science award contests, structured supplemental learning, tutoring, and independent research.
I’ve learned how to communicate my unique ideas, goals, and successes. I created a path that I will continue on in my college career. I have learned to believe in myself, present myself in a bold yet humble manner, and realize that anything is possible with effort and direction.
I plan to major in Mathematical Modeling of Social Science with added majors in Economics and Cognitive Science. I am not sure if that will lead me to an interest in finance or artificial intelligence design, but I am excited to explore and find out.
I watch others struggle with their application process. Some are disappointed with their college options. I can't help but think that I was as best prepared as possible due to really understanding the process and what admissions are looking for. I am so glad to have attained that shield from Crimson.
Identify your current strengths and interests and realize that they will evolve over time. Create and participate in small, focused EC projects that help to support your theme and build your direction.
