Happy National Ice Cream Day! We've compiled a list of the best ice cream shops on college campuses across the US

Celebrated on the third Sunday of July in the US, Ice Cream Day was signed into public law under the Reagan administration in 1984, and has been the official date for ice cream festivities every year since.
In honor of National Ice Cream Day this Sunday, and with the help of our world leading university students, we’ve put together a list of the best ice cream spots US colleges have to offer.
Here are just eight of the creamiest, sweetest, most refreshing campus ice cream stops according to college students!
Three Sisters
Brown University
Providence, Rhode Island
This ice cream spot is renowned for its authentic ingredients and strong and unique flavours. Its signature ice cream, Kulfi, has won both the People’s Choice Award and was awarded second place in the Rhode Island Food Fights Ice Cream Throwdown!
Ample Hills Creamery
Columbia University & NYU
New York, New York
Considered one of the best ice creameries in the entire state, Ample Hills Creamery is a cult classic for NY scoop aficionados. This shop is known for its inventive flavours and high quality ingredients. But be warned - lines can get long during warm evenings or hot weekends. Try their best-selling Salted Crack Caramel to eat like a local.
Cornell Dairy Bar
Cornell University
Ithaca, New York
Perhaps what makes this ice cream spot so famous within the college community is that this parlour is literally on-campus. The new renovation allows visitors to witness ice cream production from an indoor balcony. Best-selling flavours include cookie dough and black raspberry. This store also features occasional inclusions from the university’s food technology class, which challenges students to create their own concoctions, the best of which are sold at the Dairy Bar.
Berkey Creamery
Penn State
State College, Pennsylvania
The most famous of all campus ice creameries, Berkey Creamery takes the idea of “farm to table” to an entirely new level. Founded in 1889, this ice cream institution churns milk coming from their very own cow herd at the University Dairy Production Research Center in order to provide customers with ice cream of the highest and freshest quality. This store even offers a correspondence course with notable past alumni include THE Ben and Jerry!
The Bent Spoon
Princeton University
Princeton, New Jersey
This critically acclaimed parlour has more than 550 artisanal flavours in rotation, from lavender mascarpone to sun gold saffron. This store also features dairy-free favourite “Banana Whip” - an ice cream sundae made purely from bananas that comes with an exciting array of toppings, including cacao nibs, caramel sauce, hot fudge and whipped cream.
Ashley’s Ice Cream
Yale University
New Haven, Connecticut
For the 30 years this store has been in operation, it has been voted New Haven’s Best Ice Cream for 29. A frequent stop for students, faculty and visiting alumni on a hot day, this ice cream parlour has a daily rotation of different flavours. Inspired by the frisbee players who founded the shop, Ashley’s specialty is aptly called “The Frisbee” - containing a whopping 8 scoops of ice cream with up to 10 toppings.
Andy’s Frozen Custard
Northwestern University
Evanston, Illinois
Although not “ice cream” in the traditional sense, this frozen custard shop is a favourite amongst Northwestern Wildcats. This store offers an array of different frozen treats, ranging from concrete custard to classic sundaes. With names like “James Brownie Funky Jackhammer” for their custards, Andy’s offers passers-through a true taste of the Midwest.
Babcock Dairy
University of Wisconsin, Madison
Madison, Wisconsin
This ice creamery is another store that has close ties to campus, with all of the produce coming from the university’s very own Babcock Hall Dairy Plant. This joint offers classic flavours like Chocolate Peanut Butter or Cookies and Cream, but also offers those that are locally inspired, such as “Oh, Wisconsin!” or “Badger Blast”. The fact that students can use their meal plan to purchase ice cream is just another perk to this college-favorite.
